The leader of al-Qaida's affiliate in Syria has praised the chief of the terror network's branch in Yemen who was killed earlier this month in a U.S. drone attack.
The Syrian known as Abu Muhammed al-Golani, who heads the Nusra Front, says that followers of Nasir al-Wahishi "will continue on his path and carry out his mission."
Al-Golani's eulogy, which came in an audio recording posted Wednesday, says that his followers' "hearts shivered when we heard the news" of al-Wahishi's death.
The audio, released by Nusra's media arm al-Manara al-Bayda, reflects links between the Syrian militant group and the Yemeni branch of al-Qaida.
Al-Wahishi commanded the terror group's powerful Yemen affiliate and his death is the biggest blow to al-Qaida since the killing of Osama bin Laden.
