OTTAWA, Ontario – The Canadian government says its computer servers have been cyberattacked.
Cabinet Minister Tony Clement confirmed the attack Wednesday. Some have had difficulty accessing certain government websites but service was later restored to many sites.
Denial-of-service attacks are a common means of shutting down a web server.
Public Safety Minister Stephen Blaney says no personal information was compromised.
The Anonymous online collective posted a video on YouTube claiming responsibility for the attack as a protest against the recent passage of the Canada's recent anti-terrorism bill. There was no immediate confirmation of the claim.
