Roadside shootings in Denver area connected, police find, alarming residents

Florida Senator Marco Rubio makes campaign stop at 'Pawn Stars' shop in Las Vegas.

Two separate shootings. Two different victims, one injured, one killed. But police say they’re connected.

The first shooting happened near Harmony Road and I-25 in Fort Collins, then on County Road 15 in Windsor. They happened about one month apart.

Monday a task force was in place to handle the investigation and continue to follow tips and leads.

It’s been six weeks since Cori Romero was shot in the neck near Harmony and I-25 while she drove home from work. Last week she learned from police her shooting is connected to the Murder in May of John Jacoby. He was riding his bike when he was shot and killed in Windsor, about seven miles from where Romero was shot.

The connection doesn’t sit well with Romero – and she’s not alone in those feelings.

“The one thing I didn’t want to have happen in this, is for someone else to be hurt and that’s exactly what happened,” said Romero.

“I think there’s just a general feeling just to go about your business, what you’re doing. I couldn’t do that in this regard because that’s the only control that I had in this situation,” said event organizer Dennis Vanderheiden, who canceled the Pelican Fest Triathlon, scheduled to take place shortly after Jacoby’s shooting death.

He said he will not reschedule it until the person responsible is caught.

The task force includes investigators from Windsor, Larimer and Weld counties and the FBI. There is a reward of $10,000 available from the FBI and a reward of up to $2,000 available from Crime Stoppers. They are all asking anyone with information to come forward.
