Moscow police detain man suspected of possessing head and skin of endangered Siberian tiger

Moscow police say they have detained a man after he was found with what they believe are the skin and head of an endangered Siberian tiger.

They say they searched an apartment the man rented and also found 59 teeth and four bones thought to be those of a tiger or possibly an Amur leopard. They did not say if the man, a citizen of Vietnam, is suspected of poaching the animals.

Both cats are listed as protected animals in Russia.

The World Wildlife Fund estimates that there are around 450 Siberian tigers living in the wild in the triangle of territory where Russia, China and North Korea converge.
