Israel's parliament has assigned a bodyguard to protect the incoming justice minister after she received death threats and was depicted in a Nazi uniform on social media.

Parliament speaker Yuli Edelstein said he was "shocked to see explicit threats" to Ayelet Shaked's life. It was immediately decided that she be assigned security, he told Army Radio on Monday.

Manipulated images of Shaked dressed as a Nazi circulated online along with past remarks she made about Palestinian militants.

Shaked, 39, is an outspoken member of the nationalist Jewish Home party. In coalition talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the party secured several senior appointments, including justice minister.

Her appointment angered many as she has no legal background and has promoted several bills that critics say are meant to stifle dovish groups.
