Syrian activists say insurgents have overrun a military base at a converted brick factory in the country's northwest.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the opposition fighters overran the base near the town of Ariha in Idlib province on Monday. It says the insurgents captured seven tanks, armored vehicles, heavy machine guns and ammunition.
The Jisr al-Shughour activist coordinating committee's Facebook page also reported the fall of the base.
Syria's SANA state news agency says the military is waging "fierce battles" around the brick factory, and has killed and wounded a "large number of terrorists." The government refers to those trying to topple President Bashar Assad as "terrorists."
The fighting is part of an opposition offensive that has already captured Idlib's provincial capital and other towns.
