Nepal's former prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa has been cremated near a revered Hindu temple with state honors after his death earlier this week.

The 87-year-old Thapa was prime minister five times and died in a hospital in India on Wednesday night. His body was flown to Nepal on Thursday.

The body was moved to the national stadium Friday and thousands of people paid their last respects.

The body was later driven on an open truck to Pashupatinath temple and cremated with state honors.

Thapa had been in the New Delhi hospital to be treated for stomach cancer.
