Authorities in Haiti say they have discovered the bodies of 17 people who appear to have drowned off the coast of the country's northern shore.
The bodies of 11 men and six women were found Thursday morning, washed ashore in the coastal town of Le Borgne, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of Port-au-Prince.
Police inspector Jean Mesamours told The Associated Press he believes the victims likely drowned in a boating accident, although no sign of a vessel had yet been found. It is unclear if there were any survivors.
