German authorities say they suspect someone deliberately set fire to a building that was meant to house refugees in the eastern town of Troeglitz.
German news agency dpa reported Saturday that the fire overnight destroyed attic rooms in what prosecutor Joerg Wilkmann described as "particularly serious arson." Police said they were investigating a political motive.
Some 40 refugees were due to move into the building next month.
Troeglitz made headlines last month when its honorary mayor stepped down after the far-right National Democratic Party staged anti-refugee marches in the town, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) south of Berlin.
Markus Nierth complained that the local authorities weren't stopping the far right from marching in front of his family home to intimidate him after he had stood up to them.
