BUCHAREST, Romania – Romanian anti-corruption prosecutors say they have searched the home of the son of a former Moldovan president on suspicion of corruption-related charges.
Prosecutors carried out a search of the home of Sergiu Lucinschi, a businessman who also has Romanian citizenship, late Monday. A statement said he was suspected of criminal corruption charges from 2014 to March 2015, and the Romanian Intelligence Agency assisted the investigation.
Mediafax reported he was suspected of blackmail, influence peddling and unlawfully demanding 4 million lei ($990,000).
Lucinschi is the youngest son of Petru Lucinschi, Moldova's president from 1997 to 2001.
The elder Lucinschi was a Soviet-era high-ranking official in Tajikstan before Moldova declared independence in 1991.
