Witnesses say a car bomb has struck a base for a militia battling a Libyan affiliate of the Islamic State group, killing one person.

They say the attack happened late Sunday in the western Libyan city of Misrata, targeting a militia known as the 166th Battalion. They say the blast also wounded one person.

The witnesses spoke Monday on condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisals.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing. It comes amid ongoing clashes between militants of an Islamic State affiliate in Libya and the militia near the central city of Sirte.

Libya, engulfed in militia violence and torn between dueling governments, has been gripped by turmoil since its 2011 civil war and the killing of dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
