Egyptian security officials say a garbage collector and his donkey have been killed in a bomb explosion in a Cairo district.

The officials say an improvised explosive device exploded on Saturday evening when the garbage collector, in a cart driven by a donkey, was passing by in el-Matariya district. The man died at a hospital, the officials said speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters.

El-Matariya district is a hotspot for recent clashes between security forces and protesters, mainly from members and supporters of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood organization.

Some militants recently have launched a campaign of small bombings targeting local and foreign business interests, including banks, mobile phone service providers and fast food restaurants.
