The Gulf state of Qatar has recalled its ambassador to Cairo following comments made by the Egyptian delegate to the Arab League, marking a new flare-up in tensions between the two countries.
Qatar announced the recall of its envoy "for consultations" in a brief statement Thursday.
It comes after Egypt's state news agency MENA on Wednesday quoted Egyptian delegate Tarek Adel saying that Qatar "is supportive of terrorism."
Egypt earlier this week launched air strikes against Islamic State militants in Libya after the group posted video of the beheadings of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians there.
In a separate statement carried by the official Qatar News Agency, the Foreign Ministry's director of Arab affairs, Saad bin Ali Al Mohannadi, said Qatar expressed concerned over Egypt's decision to take unilateral military action.
