A conservative Canadian all-news network has gone off the air after negotiations to sell the troubled television channel were unsuccessful.

No on-air announcement was made as the screen of Sun News network went dark early Friday. It was replaced moments later with the Sun TV logo.

The closure of the news channel follows months of uncertainty surrounding its fate after Postmedia Network Canada Corp. announced plans to purchase the Sun Media newspapers and websites from Quebecor.

The channel was not included in the deal, which sparked speculation the network could fold after years of struggling in the ratings. It was launched in 2011.

Sun Media Corp. says there was no alternative to closing it after being unable to find a buyer.
