Israel's foreign minister has suspended three diplomats who tweeted posts critical of him and the prime minister ahead of an inquiry that could result in their dismissal.
Avigdor Lieberman said on Thursday that the diplomats' behavior was "unacceptable" and unbefitting their profession. He did not elaborate.
Israeli media identified the diplomats as serving in Switzerland, India and Jerusalem. Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon confirmed the reports but did not provide details.
Reported posts included tweets by Israeli journalists that criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's upcoming visit to Washington and speech before the Congress over Iran's nuclear program that has angered President Obama because it was not coordinated with him.
The suspensions come ahead of Israel's national election in March.
