An Indian official says the government has removed a second top official within a week, the latest one for allegedly stopping a former minister's arrest on suspicion of stealing funds from a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme.
The scam affected hundreds of thousands of investors.
Home Secretary Anil Goswami resigned Wednesday, months before his retirement, according to the ministry official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to reporters.
The Press Trust of India news agency said the government asked Goswami to quit for trying to shield Matang Sinh of the opposition Congress party.
Last week, the government fired Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh, unhappy with her handling of foreign policy.
