Iraqi officials say bombings and a shooting have killed nine people, including three soldiers, around Baghdad.
Police officials say the first attack took place Thursday when gunmen in a speeding car opened fire on soldiers manning a checkpoint in Baghdad's western suburb of Abu Ghraib, killing three soldiers and wounding eight others.
Later on, a bomb blast at an outdoor market killed four people and wounded 12 in the town of Youssifiyah, 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of the capital.
Police said a bomb exploded on a commercial street in the town of Mahmoudiya, just south of Baghdad, killing two people and wounding 10 others.
Medical officials confirmed the casualties. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to journalists.
