A Kenyan official says the government is considering a request by the Chinese government to repatriate some of the 76 Chinese nationals arrested in Kenya for hacking.
Ben Ogutu, the political and diplomatic secretary at the foreign affairs ministry, said on a live TV talk show Wednesday that China made a formal request to extradite its nationals. China's Foreign Affairs minister Wang Yi earlier this month during an official trip to Kenya asked for the extradition of 37 of the suspects who have been charged in court. Activist asked the government not to bow to Chinese pressure.
Police arrested the 76 Chinese nationals and one Taiwanese early December with sophisticated equipment in houses in plush neighborhoods of the city. They said they were investigating them for espionage, among other crimes.
