Irish police say they have arrested a suspected French-Algerian militant at Dublin Airport as he tried to enter Ireland using a false passport.

Police declined to identify the man but say he appeared on a European-wide watch list after he expressed support in social media for last week's jihadist attacks that left 20 dead in Paris, including three gunmen.

The man was being interrogated Friday at a police station in north Dublin near the airport.

Jihadist activity is uncommon in Ireland, a predominantly Catholic country with barely 50,000 Muslim residents representing about 1 percent of the population.
