Nagorno-Karabakh says 2 of its soldiers killed repelling Azerbaijani moves

The defense ministry of the separatist Nagorno-Karabakh region says two of its soldiers have been killed while repelling Azerbaijani infiltrators.

Nagorno-Karabakh is in Azerbaijan but has been under the control of local ethnic Armenian forces and Armenian soldiers since 1994 when a cease-fire ended six years of fighting. Despite the cease-fire, both sides frequently claim attacks by the other.

A statement from the Nagorno-Karabakh ministry said infiltrators crossed the buffer zone separating the region from the rest of Azerbaijan before dawn Saturday. Two regional soldiers were killed and the infiltrators suffered unspecified losses before turning back, it said.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry denied the claim.
