A lawyer for Hipolito Mora says the Mexican vigilante leader and 26 of his followers face murder charges for a Dec. 16 confrontation with another group that killed 11.
Lawyer Eduardo Quintero says Mora has not yet been ordered held for trial in the clash with rival vigilante leader Luis Antonio Torres Morales. A judge has until week's end to decide whether a trial is warranted.
There is reportedly also a warrant out for Torres Morales. Mora has surrendered, but Torres Morales has not.
Quintero said Sunday that Mora told him he wanted to seek election as a congressman.
Mora was in prison once before on charges relating to the deaths of two members of the rival faction in March, but the charges were later dropped.
