A keeper at Britain's largest zoo has suffered serious injuries in an incident involving a rhino.

Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire, north of London, says emergency services were called after one of its keepers was injured Wednesday morning. Ambulance officials said the man, in his 50s, received injuries to the chest, abdomen and pelvis, and that he was rushed to a hospital.

No other information was immediately available about what had happened between the keeper and the rhino.

Paramedics and zoo staff sought to keep the injured man warm as his body temperature dropped significantly.

The keeper was said to be in serious but stable condition at the hospital.
