Iran's state TV has shown footage of an aircraft it says is a replica of a U.S. stealth drone captured in 2011.

The Arabic-language channel of Iran's state TV showed the drone flying over a mountainous area Wednesday. The footage also showed the drone, which appeared identical to the American-made RQ-170 unmanned aircraft, landing at an airbase.

Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the aerospace division of the elite Revolutionary Guard, announced the test flight Monday but Wednesday's broadcast revealed the first images of it.

Iran has said it managed to reverse-engineer the drone, known as the Sentinel, which it seized in December 2011 after it entered Iranian airspace from neighboring Afghanistan. Tehran also says it is capable of launching its own production line for the unmanned aircraft.
