Danish officials say they have arrested two men in Copenhagen in possession of one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of explosive material.

The Copenhagen police said Friday on Twitter that the Danish nationals were arrested separately Thursday morning.

Police found two packs of 500 grams of explosives in the apartment of a 33-year-old man of Pakistani descent. The other suspect, aged 31, was described as having ties to the Danish military.

The police declined to comment further. Danish broadcaster DR cited prosecutor Stig Fleischer as saying that the case likely was not terror related but "an ordinary criminal case."

The men will face a custody hearing later Friday.
