A Canadian woman was charged Wednesday after the remains of six babies were found earlier this week in a Winnipeg storage facility.

Andrea Giesbrecht, 40, was arrested outside her home in the northern part of the city and charged with six counts of concealing a body and one charge of breaching probation, the Toronto Star reported.

Court records show that Giesbrecht is a gambling addict who recently admitted to defrauding a senior of several thousand dollars, the paper reported.

Employees at the storage company who were checking on a "delinquent locker" called police on Monday, the Winnipeg Free Press reported. Once inside, officers found what appeared to be the remains of several infants, Winnipeg Const. Eric Hofley told The Associated Press. The remains were so decomposed, it was not clear how many bodies they were dealing with.

It also was not clear how the infants died, how old they were or even if they were full term, Hofley said. But the victims appeared to be "very, very young" and could be newborns, Hofley added. Autopsies were being conducted.

“The forensics that are going to be involved in this investigation, they’re numerous,” Hofley told the Star on Wednesday. “It will be a long time before we’re able to answer these questions — if at all.”

He said there were no homicide charges right now and authorities are not interviewing any other suspects.

“Nothing is ruled out until all the information has been gathered and processed,” Hofley said. “But, at this point, this is what is known and these are the charges that are appropriate at this time.”

Giesbrecht was initially arrested on murder charges, but those weren’t the charges that were filed with the court, her attorney, Greg Brodsky, told the newspaper. That indicates the autopsy and forensic investigation isn’t complete yet, he said.
