Some 200 business leaders have offered support for the idea of Scottish independence from Britain, hitting back after a similar letter from other companies argued there are too many uncertainties surrounding the Sept. 18 vote.

The leaders argued that independence was in the best interests of Scotland. In an open letter in The Herald newspaper, the leaders say the real threat to Scotland's economy comes from the British Conservative Party's willingness to hold a referendum on taking Britain out of the European Union.

The letter Thursday comes the day after other leaders wrote that the case for independence had not been made, saying vital issues such as what currency the country would use remain unresolved.

Prime Minister David Cameron travels to Scotland Thursday to campaign to keep Britain together.
