MEXICO CITY – The New York-based group Human Rights Watch is calling on the Mexican government to fully investigate a supposed shootout in which soldiers killed 22 suspects while suffering only one soldier wounded.
It is unclear whether there has been any investigation at the federal level.
Human Rights Watch said Friday that nearly two months after the June 30 confrontation, "there are more questions than answers about what really took place that day."
The group said Mexico's federal Attorney General's Office had said it was looking into the case. But when The Associated Press requested the results of the autopsies of the dead, the office said it did not have the information.
State prosecutors whose examiners carried out the autopsies have refused to disclose the results.
