Power outage darkens neighborhood district of Rio de Janeiro popular with World Cup visitors

Power has failed in a densely populated area in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro that is popular with tourists visiting for the World Cup.

A spokesman for the power company Light SA says buildings throughout the well-to-do Botafogo district have been darkened by the electricity failure that hit late Sunday afternoon.

Spokesman Raphael Torres says he doesn't know how many people are affected or the cause of the failure.
