UK police: motive for fatal stabbing attack on Saudi woman in Muslim dress unknown

British police say it's not yet clear whether a Saudi student stabbed to death in eastern England was attacked because she was wearing Muslim clothing.

Nahid Almanea was wearing a full-length Muslim robe and a headscarf when she was stabbed 16 times while walking on a public path in Colchester, northeast of London. She had been studying English as part of an advanced degree program.

Police said Friday it is "simply not known" if anti-Islamic feelings played a part, adding that "jumping to conclusions is deeply unhelpful, wrong and dangerous." They said there were similarities to the killing in March of a disabled white man who was stabbed more than 100 times.

Police have urged people not to walk alone in remote areas.

One suspect was questioned about the latest killing but has been released.
