Thailand's junta lifts curfew at 3 major beach resorts to ease impact of coup on tourists

BANGKOK – Thailand's military junta has lifted a curfew at three popular beach resorts but said the restriction imposed after its May 22 coup will stay in place for the rest of the country, including the capital, Bangkok.

The junta announced Tuesday that the curfew would be lifted in Phuket, Koh Samui and Pattaya to ease the coup's impact on tourist areas that are "peaceful and free from political protests."

The curfew remains in effect from midnight to 4 a.m. in the rest of the country.
