Poland's foreign minister says that diplomatic efforts are being made to obtain the release of a Polish Catholic priest missing in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine.
Polish media say the priest, Pawel Witek, has been missing since Tuesday noon, when he failed to show up for prayers in Donetsk.
Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski said Wednesday that Poland's consul general in Donetsk, Jakub Wolasiewicz, was "taking steps to obtain the release of a Polish citizen." He gave no details, but stressed that the consul was working under fire as Ukrainian forces are confronting pro-Russia separatists in the city.
Poland's news agency PAP quoted a Polish bishop in Ukraine, Jan Sobilo, as saying Witek was held at the security service building which is under the control of the separatists.
