SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea says it will participate in the Asian Games hosted by South Korea in September.
The announcement on Friday is a glimmer of possible rapprochement in otherwise rising animosity between the rivals.
Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency says the North's Olympic committee told the Asian Olympic Committee it will soon make the necessary applications. The announcement came a day after the Koreas traded artillery fire in disputed Yellow Sea waters. The artillery shells landed in the water.
In January, North Korea said it would take part in men's and women's football but hadn't made clear if it would participate in other events.
