Chinese government pledges to seek public approval for a planned waste incinerator have failed to appease the project's neighbors after thousands of them blocked a highway and clashed with police in a bid to stop the construction.
Officials repeated in state media that they would seek public support for the incinerator even as they pursue the arrests of more than a dozen people behind the weekend protests in the eastern city of Hangzhou.
One neighbor, who only identified himself as Micah, says several smaller protests broke out Monday, and that he and others would continue taking to the streets despite the government's promises.
At least 10 protesters and 29 policemen were injured in clashes Saturday.
