MADRID – Authorities say a local Spanish politician with the country's ruling party has been shot dead on a walkway near her home and two women have been taken into custody.
An Interior Ministry official says authorities believe a personal grudge was the motive behind Monday's killing of Isabel Carrasco, leader of the Popular Party in Leon province. The official says one of the women in custody was an engineer with the province who had been fired from her job and the other person was her mother.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of ministry rules preventing them from being named.
Authorities did not say if they believe one or both fired shots.
