Activists: Buses arrive to evacuate Syrian rebels from city of Homs under ceasefire deal

Syrian activists say five buses have arrived in the central city of Homs ahead of a planned evacuation of opposition fighters under a ceasefire deal struck last week with government forces.

A Homs-based activist who goes by the name of Abu Yassin al-Homsi says the buses arrived on Wednesday morning at the police command in the government-held city center and that the evacuation is expected to start within hours.

In exchange for their evacuation, al-Homsi and the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights say opposition fighters will allow aid into two northern pro-government villages besieged by rebel forces.

Rebel-held central neighborhoods of Homs have been besieged by Syrian government forces for more than a year, causing widespread hunger.
