Police in South Africa say they have arrested a fugitive from neighboring Lesotho who had escaped from a prison where he was awaiting trial after allegedly confessing to cannibalism and two murders in 2012.

Police said Friday that the 27-year-old suspect, Makhele Lehlohonolo Joseph Scott, was living on a church's premises in Amaoti, a small community in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province, and played in the church band. He was arrested there on April 7.

Police say Scott was first arrested in Lesotho after two people, including a 13-year-old boy, went missing. They say Scott pointed out a shallow grave where a torso and thigh were found, and also led police to a primary school where a head and other body parts were found in a toilet pit.
