Defense in 9/11 case at Guantanamo seeks to question FBI officials in document probe

Lawyers for five men charged in the Sept. 11 attack are seeking to question the FBI about an apparent investigation of defense team personnel in the case.

A motion filed Wednesday in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, seeks testimony from three FBI agents and a prosecutor who also works for the FBI.

The request follows the revelation Monday that FBI agents questioned a defense team evidence technician.

The FBI has declined comment. But lawyers say the agents are investigating how writings from the lead defendant got out without a security review.

Such an investigation could create a potential conflict of interest for the lawyers representing the five prisoners charged with orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack. It has already halted a pretrial hearing this week at the base in Cuba.
