KINGSTON, Jamaica – A prison officer in Jamaica has died from bullet wounds inflicted during an attack by gunmen who ambushed him late last month.
Cpl. Easton Williams was shot multiple times while on his way to work at a prison in the southern parish of St. Catherine. The Caribbean island's government says he died from his injuries Wednesday at a hospital in the capital of Kingston.
In a statement, National Security Minister Peter Bunting offers condolences to Williams' family and says the killers will be brought to justice.
Bunting says brazen attacks on law enforcers, in his words, "only serve to strengthen our resolve to rid the country of criminal elements."
There have been no arrests in the case.
