A mob's killing of a man who stole a purse in Argentina has been followed by a string of similar attacks as people take justice into their own hands.

Eighteen-year-old David Moreyra was beaten to death last week after grabbing a purse from a woman in Rosario, 190 miles north of Buenos Aires.

Since then, several people have been beaten across the nation for trying to commit crimes. Two more purported criminals were attacked Tuesday in Cordoba and Rosario provinces.

Argentines are fed up with a rise in crime, but many people are criticizing the vigilante attacks. They blame the outbreak of mob violence on what they say is overheated media coverage.

President Cristina Fernandez called on Monday for a halt to such violence. No one has been arrested.
