A longtime aide to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has agreed to turn state's witness against him just days before his verdict in a corruption case.
Shula Zaken reached a deal with authorities Thursday to testify against Olmert in a bribery trial involving a controversial Jerusalem real estate project. Zaken will serve 11 months in prison as part of her plea bargain.
Zaken has been Olmert's most loyal confidante for 30 years.
Olmert was forced to resign as prime minister in 2009 amid a flurry of corruption allegations.
He was cleared in 2012 of the most serious charges but convicted on a lesser count of breach of trust for steering jobs and contracts to clients of business partners. He got a suspended one-year sentence.
