Lebanese police say a Syrian woman has been hospitalized after setting herself on fire to protest difficult living conditions for refugees in Lebanon.

Police say the woman set herself ablaze Tuesday in front of the offices for a U.N. relief agency in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli. They say she is in now stable condition at the city's Al-Salam hospital.

Hospital officials identified the woman as Miriam Abdulkader, a mother of four from the Syrian city of Homs. She has lived in Tripoli for two years.

Witnesses say Abdulkader doused herself with gasoline after arguing with a guard at the U.N. agency. Bystanders helped extinguish the flames before authorities rushed the woman to the hospital.

Over 1 million Syrian refugees live in Lebanon.
