A defense lawyer says a Pakistani court trying the former military ruler Pervez Musharraf has delayed his indictment after authorities warned about an al-Qaida and Taliban plot on his life.
The lawyer, Faisal Hussain, says the interior ministry had informed law enforcement agencies overnight about the militant plan to assassinate Musharraf.
After that, the court summoned a high official from the ministry, ordering extra measures for Musharraf's safety.
The court was supposed to indict Musharraf on Tuesday for his 2007 decision to declare a state of emergency and detain several judges.
Musharraf took power in a 1999 coup but was forced to step down in 2008. He later left Pakistan for self-imposed exile. He returned last year to take part in elections but faced a slew of legal problems.
