Britain's U.N. ambassador says Moscow is facing growing isolation and increasing pressure to stop the referendum on Crimea after Russia once again blocks action by the U.N. Security Council on Ukraine.
Britain's Mark Lyall Grant told reporters after a closed council meeting Monday that almost all members — including Russia's usual ally China — have underlined the importance of upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
France's U.N. Ambassador Gerard Araud said Churkin predicted the Crimea referendum will be successful, and told the council Russia "will fulfill its historical responsibility."
The council meeting was the fifth in 10 days on Ukraine.
