Danish government: Reporter freed after monthlong Mideast captivity

A Danish official says a journalist from the country has been released after being held captive for a month in the Middle East, likely in either Lebanon or Syria.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ole Egberg Mikkelsen says the reporter, Jeppe Nybroe, was freed Thursday, but he gave no details of where or by whom. He told the AP that local authorities were investigating the circumstances of his disappearance.

Egberg Mikkelsen said Friday that Nybroe was abducted on Feb. 8 in Lebanon, near the Syrian border, but that it was unclear where he had been held. He declined to comment on Danish news reports that a ransom had been paid before the release of the freelance television reporter based in Beirut.
