South Africa's political opposition marches near ruling party headquarters, and bricks fly

Members of South Africa's ruling party have thrown bricks at marchers from the main opposition party in downtown Johannesburg.

The skirmish happened Wednesday after followers of the opposition Democratic Alliance marched near the headquarters of the African National Congress, which has dominated politics since the end of white minority rule in 1994.

The South African Press Association says protesters threw bricks as opposition leader Helen Zille was about to address her supporters.

The opposition party members then ran from the scene and police blocked off roads in the area.

South Africa will hold general elections on May 7.
