Police: 6 people wounded in grenade attack in northern Rwandan town

KIGALI, Rwanda – Rwandan police say a grenade attack in the northern town has wounded at least six people, two of them critically.

Regional police spokesman Emmanuel Hitayezu said Tuesday that two men on a motorcycle hurled a grenade at people gathering near a taxi stop before speeding away.

He said the attack happened Monday night near the Rwandan Police College in the district of Musanze. He said it was likely that anti-government rebels operating in Congo were behind the attack.

Rwanda has seen a series of grenade blasts in recent times authorities often blame on dissident groups. Some of the grenade attacks have targeted the capital, Kigali. Last September two people were killed and dozens wounded in two simultaneous grenade blasts there.
