Plane that made forced landing in Romania carrying medics found after 4 ½ hour massive search

The Romanian prime minister says passengers on a small plane that was forced to land on a remote mountain in Transylvania have been found alive after a massive search.

Victor Ponta said late Monday the five passengers and two crew members on a medical mission flight were alive. Authorities say the pilot and a medical student were seriously injured.

The plane was transporting medics from Bucharest to western Romania to harvest organs for transplant Monday afternoon when it was forced to land at an altitude of 1,400 meters (4,595 feet) after it ran into technical difficulties.

Hundreds of rescue workers and local residents combed the remote area in deep snow and dense fog for 4 ½ hours until the damaged aircraft was located.
