Personal information of Puerto Rico doctors stolen, opening possibility of identity theft

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Officials say someone stole the personal information of all medical doctors licensed to practice in Puerto Rico.

The president of the island's Association of Surgeons says whoever stole the information can engage in identity theft and submit fake prescriptions. Eduardo Ibarra said Friday that he has asked the FBI and Puerto Rico's Justice Department to investigate.

He said the association's electronic system was recently hacked and that doctors have been receiving harassing emails.
