Israel's foreign minister has summoned a group of European ambassadors to protest what Israel has described as their countries' one-sided approach to the Mideast conflict.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Paul Hirschson says Avigdor Lieberman has called in the ambassadors of Britain, France, Italy and Spain.
Friday's move comes a day after these countries summoned the Israeli ambassadors to protest a recent Israeli announcement of new settlement tenders in east Jerusalem and the West Bank — territories Palestinians want for their future state.
Israelis and Palestinians began peace talks in July after years of stalemate. The Palestinians and the West consider further building to pose an obstacle for peace and have harshly criticized Israel for doing so.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed the critics as hypocrites and called the claims "bogus."
