Police say an American national has been detained at a Nepal airport over the weekend with seven bullets in his baggage.

Police official Rewati Dhakal said the man identified as Leonard John David Rubin from Alaska has been held in custody since Saturday. There was no gun found in his possession.

Rubin arrived in Nepal on Friday and was taking a domestic flight the following day.

Dhakal says Rubin would be charged with violating the Public Offense Act. According to Government Administrator Basanta Raj Gautam, he could face six months in prison and a 10,000 rupees ($100) fine if convicted.

Rubin is being held at a detention center in the capital, Katmandu.

Calls to the U.S. Embassy seeking comment were not immediately returned Monday.
